When To Transition
Healthy co-sleeping can go on for years if you are letting the child decide it is enough or you enjoy a family bed. Other times a child needs to learn to sleep in its own space sooner than he or she wants. This could be due to a new baby coming, parents wanting their bed back, or that the family sees that it is time. This transition can go smoothly if parents try a few tactics prior to the major move. Side carring the crib to the main bed is a first step, along with day napping in the new bed. This will allow the child to learn to sleep with space between you, making the transition from co-sleeping to sleeping alone easier.
